Affiliate marketing is a type of marketing on the internet through which the person who refers a sale through the click on a product link, earns a percentage of a sale or is paid a fixed amount per generated lead. Affiliate marketers only get paid if a sale is made (or for leads a form is correctly completed) after a visitor clicks through a link made by the affiliate and a purchase is made with in a set time period called the cookie duration. If no purchase is made, the marketer earns nothing which is why it is misleading for an affiliate to say that he was compensated for the advertising since it is possible that no sale had occurred for that affiliate working with that merchant. |
